What is Galltrol?

 Galltrol Label    Galltrol MSDS
  • Galltrol is produced from a culture of the naturally occurring strain of Agrobacterium radiobacter (strain K-84) grown on a scientifically defined agar medium.
  • These harmless bacteria are cultivated under controlled environmental conditions until bacterial numbers and vigor are maximized.
  • Fresh Galltrol cultures are produced weekly and are available for immediate shipment.
  • Galltrol cultures are routinely tested to ensure that our product contains only highly effective disease-preventing bacteria.
  • Cultures have a 120 day shelf life when refrigerated at 34 - 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Galltrol has proven to be an excellent biocontrol agent and is used throughout the world.
  • Galltrol represents the first commercial product of strain K-84 sold in the U.S.

AgBioChem, Inc. was the first company to receive registration in the U.S. to market strain K-84 under the name Galltrol-A. This application to US-EPA was based upon extensive replicated field trials by Schroth and Moller ( Plant Disease Reporter: 60-759-761,1976 ). These field trials, using hundreds of trees of different varieties, were conducted in a commercial nursery using standard planting and growth techniques.

Since its inception, Galltrol has been tested and used throughout the world. When used correctly, with the appropriate concentration, Galltrol has proven extremely effective in protection against crown gall. For more than thirty years, Galltrol (strain K-84) has developed a consistent and proven record of success. This performance history elevates Galltrol to the level of gold standard in the prevention of crown gall.

Use

  • Galltrol prevents disease by disrupting the infection process.
  • Galltrol protects against crown gall by producing antibiotics that are toxic to the gall-producing pathogen and by occupying infection sites otherwise colonized by the pathogen.
  • Crown Gall bacterium infects plants via fresh wounds on crowns, roots, stems, and trunks.
  • Chances of infection are particularly great during digging, transplanting, and planting  resulting in plant decline, yield reduction, and death.
  • Galltrol can be used to physically exclude the pathogen from wounds by colonizing available attachment sites.

Application

  • Root stock may be sprayed, dipped, or drenched in a suspension of water and Galltrol.
