  • Gallex is designed to treat  plants already infected with crown gall bacteria.
  • Gallex is a chemotherapeutant that was developed by the University of California, Berkeley ( Shcroth, M.N. and D.C. Hildebrand. 1968. Phytopathplogy 58:524-525 ).
  • An oil based emulsion, it contains several hydrocarbons that selectively penetrate and kill crown gall tissues.
  • GallEx has been widely used for decades in many countries and with great success.

Use

  • Plants commonly treated with Gallex include almond, apple, blueberry, caneberry, cherry, filbert, grape, kiwi, olive, nectarine, peach, pear, pecan, persimmon, plum, pine, prune, walnut, and ornamentals ( willow, poplar, roses, eunoymous and others ).
  • Gallex may also be used to eradicate burr knot, olive knot and rust gall of pine.

Application

  • Gallex may be applied directly to galls via paintbrush.
  • Very large galls may be partially removed; in the case of walnuts, galls may be completely removed.
  • To treat galls located below the soil,  it is recommended that the soil be removed through the use of pressurized water to expose the diseased areas.
